Ever since my calendar announced that it was March 20th, I decided that it was time to embrace springtime. There was still snow on the ground, and my weather app said that it was technically freezing. But, I refused to hold onto winter any longer. I put my winter clothes into storage, and went on a shopping spree, ready to welcome springtime into my life. Here’s what I bought:

Jersey Dress

A perfect dress is one that I can “live in.” To me that means that it looks great, feels comfortable, and can be worn to the park with my son, or to my cousin’s graduation bash. This season, that dress is the jersey dress — made from a light and stretchy material that hugs my body in all the right places. Whether I wear it with strappy sandals, sneakers, or flip flops, I always look and feel incredible in it.

Anything Yellow, Neon, or Pink

As a native New Yorker, I actually find it difficult to buy clothing that isn’t black, white or gray. But when spring rolls around, I find myself craving color. This year, bright colors are in. And when I say bright, I mean the kind of colors that may make your eyes hurt. But that’s what sunglasses are for, right? I decided to be daring and introduced a neon tank top to my wardrobe. I figured I’d wear it with a cardigan. Maybe when I’m feeling daring, I’ll unbutton it a bit and let the color shine through.

Shoulder-Revealing Shirts

Shoulders are front and center this season with runways featuring off-the-shoulder looks, as well as shirts with shoulder cut-outs. I think the shoulder is one of the most underrated body parts. After all, they truly carry so much weight, with backpacks, baby carriers, and pocketbooks slung over them. This year, I’m excited to give my shoulders some spotlight — and sun!

Flowers Galore

I live near one of Manhattan’s most beautiful and underrated parks — Fort Tryon Park. In its entrance is a narrow pathway with colorful flowers spilling out in every direction. This year, floral prints are in, and I can’t wait to traipse down the path in a flowery dress, fading into the beautiful surroundings.

Loose Spaghetti Strap Tank Top

Thank you, fashion world, for introducing clothing that’s loose, light, and extremely versatile. This season, that is the spaghetti strap tank top. It’s easy to throw on, and can be paired with tight jeans, short shorts, leggings, and even a skirt. After buying one, I immediately called our babysitter and asked if she could watch our son on Saturday night. I was excited to wear my spaghetti strap tank top and check out the new Brazilian bar in our neighborhood with my man, and a few of our friends. I even sent invitations to everyone, inviting them to join in on the fun.

Slogan Tees

Say it loud, wear it proud! Slogan tees are the new Facebook posts — an amazing way to tell the world what you stand for. They’re super fun and great conversation starters. When I wore my “Love Being a Working Mom” tee, I got lots of thumbs up and “you go girl!”s while walking down the street. I have never felt so empowered while doing errands.
