At demo today, our Creative Director Julie (whom you’ll be hearing more about soon!) shared an inspirational video with the Smilebox crew about failure and what it really means to succeed.
If you’re a perfectionist like me, then you’ll definitely benefit from watching this video and gaining a new perspective on learning from your “failures.”
Tomorrow is National Boss’s Day, so if you’ve got a boss worth recognizing, now’s your chance… This time, you can be the one to buy lunch, bring snacks, or do the environmentally-friendly thing and send a Boss’s Day ecard!
We asked the Smilebox community on Facebook to give us their thoughts on what makes a good boss and this is what they said:
A good boss is…
“Someone who takes a personal interest in his team – who knows something about them and what makes them tick.” – Lee Ann
“Understanding, confident, and able to see things from all angles.” – Kristie
“A good listener.” – William
“A great boss is one that is willing to roll up his sleeves with his employees to get the job done and meet a crucial deadline. AND he’s NOT a screamer.” – Monica
When asked “What makes a good boss?”, Smilebox employees had this to say…
“A great boss is one with whom you trust, and who trusts you…” – Paul
“A good boss is someone that encourages you and supports you, ensuring that you do the best work possible.” – Laura
“When his name is Rod. ” – Rod

Did you know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month?
The American Cancer Society estimates that 192,370 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed among women around the world this year, and chances are you know someone who has been diagnosed herself.
This week’s Smilebox of the Week comes from a breast cancer survivor named Brandi Palmer. As an early-detection-advocate, Brandi created this breast cancer awareness slideshow to share her story and encourage women to regularly get checked for breast cancer. Says Brandi:
It is my wish that this video/slide show will promote early detection and awareness while hopefully saving a few lives along the way.
Do you know anyone who has had breast cancer? Did they benefit from early detection?
Note: This Smilebox contains partial nudity in a medical setting in order to honestly convey the true nature of breast cancer. Please use discretion while viewing this video.

Smilebox announced today that it has acquired Preclick, a Seattle-based software company that enables users to print photos directly to large retailers such as Walmart, Walgreens, Costco, Sam’s Club and Meijers. Smilebox plans to enhance the Preclick retailer offerings for holiday 2009 with custom versions of Smilebox that will provide 1-hour, direct to store printing of Smilebox designs.
Consumers will be able to use retailer versions of the Smilebox service to quickly combine their photos with over 900 quality designs (including cards, collages and invitations as well as scrapbook and photobook pages), then order any page to be printed at store and picked up within the hour. Customers will be able to create, print and pay for individual pages as they go, as opposed to having to spend more time, effort and money to create and order full books. This will be an easier, more flexible and affordable solution.
The retailers that Smilebox will be offering this capability with this holiday season will be announced in the coming weeks.
