Economic times are hard this year and the shelves are getting picked over. What better way to remedy the Christmas-buying blues than with a unique, homemade gift this year?
We’re not suggesting that you fold origami cranes or papier-mâché your likeness into a bust for the mantle – we’re talking about classy, personalized gifts that anyone would be delighted to receive. Step up the gift-giving this year with a DIY present that will impress!
Cookie-making kits
A kit with all right ingredients to make delicious cookies not only gives your recipient a fun activity, but chances are they’ll want to share their cookies with you too! Use your own recipe or find one online, then collect the recipe and ingredients together in a basket or nice box and you’ve got yourself a great homemade gift.
Personalized calendars
These can run a bit cheesey, but who doesn’t like a bit of cheese now and then? Don’t just limit yourself to pictures of family and friends, consider putting together a calendar of landscapes or wildlife or whatever subject matter your recipient is most passionate about.
Themed gift baskets
Put together a breakfast basket with pancake mix and syrup, or a tea basket with tea leaves and scone mix. Tailor your items to the taste of your loved ones… If they love arts and crafts, consider some paint and a blank canvas, or knitting needles and yarn. Any interest can be turned into a fun and thoughtful gift basket that your friends and family will enjoy!

Recipe book
Collect all your favorite holiday recipes in one place for the ultimate personalized feast. (Check out the Smilebox Company Recipe Book for some inspiration on what to include in your recipe book!)
Whatever you create, just make sure you play to your strengths. If you don’t see something you like here, browse DIY sites like Instructables to help give you some ideas of your own. Whatever you decide on, just remember – it’s the thought that counts!
